Our lab studies the role of embryonic movement behavior during the development of the nervous system. Using a chicken embryo model and optogenetic techniques, we are able to manipulate chicken embryos' neural activity. My project is focused on designing a new DNA construct to allow expression of a light-activated ion channel, channelrhodopsin-2, in embryonic muscle tissue.
